Half of U.S. adults have high blood pressure under the current AHA guidelines
Nearly half of adult Americans, 46 percent, have high blood pressure according to the 2017 guidelines published by the American Heart Association.
About a third of adult Americans had high blood pressure under the 2017 guidelines. Under the new guidelines, people with readings of 130 as their top number and 80 as their bottom number have high blood pressure. The old threshold was 140/90.
